Dickies Boys' School Uniform Short

I ordered size 16. These shorts fit a bit large around the waist of our 12 year old son. However, they look good from behind and the length is correct. He is about 5 ft tall and quite slender. He has to use a belt, but they are going to work fine. Quality is good. I just ordered another pair same size.

I unfortunately listened to all the reviews that said Dickies shorts/pants ran 2 sizes too small. My son wears a 16 right now. So I ordered an 18 and a 20 to see which one would fit him best. Neither did! They would not let me exchange them for two 16's because it wasn't Amazon's fault; it was mine. So I had to return those (free of charge, thankfully), and re-order (thus paying more shipping) a pair of 16's. They fit him well, but most boys like their shorts on the longer side. These are not a longer cut, but hit just above the knee. Thankfully, he's still choosing to wear them. ( I also ordered 2 16 Dickies pants, but their waistlines are too big for him, when I thought they'd fit the same as the shorts. Rather disappointed. He's going to cinch in his belt and I hope he'll grown into them this year.)

According to the size chart, my son would've been a 14, we've bought those in the past and they were too big. We are familiar with how the sizing works now so for any future customers, note that the sizing is a little big and your best bet is to buy one size smaller. Overall these shorts are great and very durable and lasting.

Rec'd these in the mail and they were definitely NOT what i was expecting! They appear long (typical current length for skater look) in the pic. When i got them they were at least 3" too short . My son is avrg height for 8.5 yrs of age, but looked ridiculous in them. These are going back ASAP. Other than that, the stiff material that breaks in so well after a lot of wear is still what these shorts are made of. They just need to be below the knee!

I bought these for my tall but normal weight son(4'5", 65 lbs) (who wears the dickies brand pants in size 8 and has to use a belt to keep up), shorts size 8. They are much to tight in the waist, to the point he cannot wear. Unfortunately I ordered him 3 pairs, expecting to fit like the pants and they are going to have to be sent back. I bought size 10 for his brother (2 years older and same thing...pants size 10 loose and requires belt) and he too cannot wear the shorts. I had younger son put on the size 10s and snug in the waist but can barely wear and he is only 7 years old! Definitely not recommend unless very thin child.

Great deal on uniform shorts for my son. I ordered a size up based on other reviews and was glad. My son takes a 14 in Lands' End, but a 16 in these shorts. They are a slim fit, which works well for my son, and the length is nice and long (about an inch longer than the 14 from LE). Note that there is no waist adjustment inside the shorts. LE shorts are 100% cotton, these are 65% polyester/35% cotton, so I like the softness/feel of LE better, but my son hasn't mentioned any preference between the two brands. Without a sale or coupon, LE shorts are $27.00, so this is quite a savings.

The waist was very loose on my skinny preteen. He wore suspenders and a belt would look silly. These shorts would be five- star if they had an adjustable waist band.
