Save yourself hundreds of $$ and buy this
I was recently quoted $370 to have the dealership replace this. The VW part alone is $270. This part fits as it should, looks like the oem part, and took me maybe 15 minutes to replace. For my car that has 200,000 miles on it, putting less expensive parts into it where I can is something I like to do.

A no-brainer for the price
Easy install, great value. Bought this for my 2014 VW Jetta Sportwagen. Dealer wanted $230+ (part only, no labor). There are many on-line video's on how to do this. Make sure you have Torx bits/drivers AND Triple Square bits before you start (go figure)! Pay attention the metal fastener clips when you pull away the panel, some of them may stay in their socket instead of where they mount on the panel. You can pull them out with pliers and slide them back into place on the panel, just look at the ones that stayed where they belong for reference.

So easy even I could do it
I have a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. The latch on the tailgate stopped working. I would just hear a unlocking noise. Other people on here said you needed a T 25 but my screws were smaller and I needed a T 15. I just popped the cover off on both sides where the T15 screws are. It was hard to pull the interior panel down but I took a little screwdriver and pryed it down some. Just pry it enough to release the interior panel just a little bit so you can see the screws that are holding on the latch. FYI when you go to unplug it there’s a little release for the plug just push it in and the plug comes right out. I used an 8 mm And unscrewed the two screws that was holding the latch on. Put it all back together and make sure before you slam it shut that that you use the handle to unlock it so the latch is open. It took me less than 10 minutes after I had all the tools I needed together. There were 2 T15 screws, holding the interior cover on and 2 8mm xzn triple square bit socket with 3/8” drive holding on the latch. This is sooooo easy!

looks good
Did not end up using this one because there is a triple square fastener and I didnt have the proper tools. I ended up buying one that included the tools. I did not test this one but it looked identical to the one I ended up using and I have no reason to doubt that it would work fine.
