IMS Big Bang Precision Filter Basket for 58mm portafilters, 18-20g. double espresso (h23.5)

While cleaning my Isomac Millennium (E61) I decided, after 20 years of use, to try one of the puck screens folks are using these days. The puck screen on the Millennium is not at all easily removable so cleaning it well is a real pain involving tons of backflushing. When the puck screen came, I realized it wouldn't fit in the tapered OEM basket, so that led me down the path of getting a new basket with straight walls that would fit my portafilter. I'm happy to say that this basket fits perfectly in my portafilter and also accepts my 58.5mm puck screen (which does indeed help a lot with the grouphead screen staying clean). My espresso is also notably sweeter, though I'll have to spend more time with this basket before I can say it wasn't due to my latest cleaning. I did have to grind a bit finer with this basket, so I would expect some impacts to flavor. My tamper is 58mm, so it does leave a few fines around the edge, so I'll probably upgrade my tamper to 58.5mm next. Overall, the basket seems well made, looks cool if that's important, and my espresso tastes great.

Compared to the two OEM filter baskets, one coming with the Espresso machine and one coming with the bottomless portafilter, this IMS Big Bang is definitely the best that I can tell visually from the espresso extraction through a bottomless portafilter. Less but finer grounds help as well.

Such a great basket! Easy to clean as usually my puck leaves no residual grounds in the basket. I feel as if my shots are more consistent based on the reduction in channeling that I am witnessing. My only complaint is that my magnetic dosing collar doesn’t really stick to this basket which can be a pain. I sorta just hold my collar on with my thumb while dosing to keep it on there

I purchased this basket for use with a Gaggia Classic Evo Pro. Right now, this is a mostly stock unit (no adjustments to the OPV, no PID) and the only modifications performed has been switching from the stock shower screen to an IMS GA200IM and the use of a bottomless portafilter. Compared to stock baskets, the big bang offers a number of advantages. First, this is a straight wall basket which I definitely prefer over the curved basket included with my portafilter and the unit itself. For dialing in, this was relatively easy and only took 5 adjustments on grind to get a very workable and consistent extraction. In terms of flavor, it does seem to offer a different level of extraction than possible from the traditional "competition" straight wall basket, but seems a lot easier to dial it in. I forsee this will become particularly useful when trying new coffees, as it is certainly frustrating to go through 20% of a 12oz bag of coffee just to get the grind dialed in.

I own several espresso baskets, but the IMS Big Bang has completely won me over. It’s been my go-to for over six months, and I haven’t felt the need to swap it out once! The consistency is outstanding, delivering even extractions every time. It’s also easy to clean, which is a huge plus. If you're serious about espresso, this basket is absolutely worth it!

The double basket that came with our Oracle Jet yields 22-24g of coffee from the built in hopper. There is an adjustment to lower the tamper, but that only gets one close to 22g. With this IMS basket we are able to get down to 18g, which is a lot closer to what we prefer. If the Jet's tamper adjustment had one or two more threads, I suspect we could easily hit 16-17g, but alas ~18 is as low as we can go with a double basket. Fit and finish is excellent, as expected for an IMS product. For us, and our coffee strength preference, this basket is well worth the money.

love this basket. after switching to this i have had way more consistent shots and my water distribution has been noticeably better. only issue is the material is not very magnetic so it causes issues with my magnetic dosing funnel

Good quality IMS basket! Been looking to try something a bit different than the OEM baskets that came with the espresso machine, and where I can improve my puck prep skills. I like the straighter sides of the Big Bang, hole pattern, and the height (23.5mm) that holds very well an 18 gram dose. Also started to prefer the ridgeless baskets, due to the ease of taking them out of the portafilter for cleaning, and for not holding grounds in the ridge after tamping. Consistent and even pull but did not find to be sweeter than what I was getting with my other baskets. I am still learning. Like with any precision basket, you will have to grind a bit finer. Overall happy with the purchase.

Very positive! I've used several baskets so far but this one has been impressive so far to say the least. I enjoy it and I don't think on going back to my other ones.

Bu boşlukların oluşu oraya delik koymamasından kaynaklı akışı merkeze yönlendiriyor. Bunun bir olumsuzluğu var ki mutlaka kahve puckını sepete kenarlardan yapışıyor. Nano sepetlerdeki gibi kusursuz bir yapışmama özelliği beklememeniz gerekiyor. Sanırım bu yapışmaz kaplama bu sepetlerde mevcut değil. Orta tarafa yapışmazken çoğunlukla sepet kenalarında kahve yapışıyor. Tüm bunlara rağmen güzel bir sepet. Fakat Wafo veya Weber tarzı sepetlerin performansını beklemek büyük bir hayal kırıklığı yaratabilir...

This filter basket I ve tried with alot of coffees but its speciality is the italian miscela (arabica /robusta compotition) , in this field brings more clarity more airy body, more sweetness and less bitterness (that characterist is for those like me who drink their coffee without anything). This basket is good if you like and ristreto. If you find the coffee fresh and the grind right , excellent.
